Robert Kyle

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Kyle, an extremely well liked, highly respected member of Local 528.  Bob joined the OPCMIA on May 14, 1957, served as our trustee and was the President of our local from June 1972 through May 2000.  He was an instructor at the Cement Mason's JATC, teaching the majority of cement mason apprentices who have joined over the last three decades!  Brother Kyle was instrumental in the growth and success of Local 528.  He will truly be missed by all who knew him.  Anyone wishing to send cards of condolence can send them in care of Local 528 and we will forward them to his family.

Wage Allocation Plasterers

Thanks for Voting

The  July 1 increase of $1.73 was split up as follows: $.23 to Pension, $.05 to Building Fund, $.05 to Apprenticeship and $.05 to working dues Thanks for all your input and keep up the good work.

MUCH DESERVED

After many years of hard work Mr. Mark Maher received a Special Recognition Award by the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council for his dedication to improving apprenticeship and safety training.  It was a very moving ceremony, much enjoyed by all who attended. Mark received a standing ovation, also a rousing cheer from the crowd. Mark's wife and son attended, as did many of "Mark's" apprentices.  Also, it was a great pleasure to see Mr. Tony Orsillo, Mark's first boss .

I would personally like to thank Mark for his years of dedication and commitment to his students and the members of Local 528.

We are in your debt, Thank You!

John

 Wage allocation

After much debate the Cement Masons of Local 528 decided to allocate their $2.23 June 1, 2008 wage increase in this manner:
Pension - $.24  for a total of $6.00 per hour
Building Fund - $.05 for a total of $0.10 per hour
Working Dues -  $.07 for a total of $1.41 per hour
I would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting, voiced their opinion and VOTED.
DEMOCRACY WORKS.
JOHN

Welfare & Pension,

New website up and running. Please visit site, I received my personal pin number and have since logged onto the W.P.A.S. website it is very informative.  I think it could use a little tweaking but it is a great start.

In solidarity

John

Many contractors in the area are predicting a good year of work in 2008.  I don't think there will be quite as many hours as last year, as construction spending is down in most parts of the country, but our commercial and infrastructure jobs are keeping the work good for now.  Hopefully that trend will continue. The International website has been updated and it is quite good. I encourage all members to visit this site.  There is a link on the right side of this page.

Be proud of who you are, what you do, and the craft you ply.

JOHN

     CONGRATULATIONS -

Mr. Eugene Coshow - 70 Year Card Member!
